Classical Chinese Medicine is a healing art which originated some 3,000 to 5,000 years ago and has been used for millennia to treat and prevent illness. Chinese Medicine is a complete system of medicine that can be used to treat any health issue by bringing balance to the system. Signs and symptoms lead to a diagnosis centered on the individual rather than the disease. The mental, emotional and physical symptoms are considered interrelated. Disease is viewed as a disharmony, and treatment is directed toward balance .
The Chinese system of medicine is a dynamic interplay of Five elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood and how the corresponding organ systems feed and control one another. During a Chinese Medicine interview, all aspects of a person including the shen, vibrancy and color of the face, sound of voice, tone of skin and odor help determine a diagnosis. Additionally, tongue and pulse diagnosis are used to help determine vitality of internal organs and areas of excess or deficiency. Therapy may include the use of any of the following: Acupuncture, the insertion of fine, sterile needles along meridians or pathways of energy. Moxabustion, the heating of the herb Mugwort on or near body parts to stimulate or move Qi (pronounced CHEE). Gua Sha, a method of scraping the skin surface with a porcelain spoon to invigorate or move “stuck” qi. Cupping, the use of glass jars and suction pL.Ac.ed at specific points or moved around the body to remove deep levels of stagnation along meridians. Chinese Herbal formulas and Dietary advice is tailored to the individual constitution, type of disharmony and external factors such as climate and season. The Chinese Medicine classics teach us that to live in harmony with nature and the rhythms of the universe as a whole is how one stays vital and healthy. Qi Gong Is a healing form of a martial art. Qi Gong can be used by a practitioner during a session to invigorate or move qi in a patient. Additionally, Qi Gong can be taught to a patient to help build strength and qi in him/her self. |
